Small Business Website Launch Checklist for Enquiries That Reach You

Check your small business website before launch, including service clarity, mobile usability, contact forms, ownership and a reliable enquiry handover.

A website contact form and a launch checklist on a bright desk.

Before launching a small business website, test whether a new visitor can understand the offer, find the right service and contact you successfully. A polished home page is only one part of that journey. The enquiry must also reach someone who can respond, and the business must be able to maintain the site afterward.

Use a checklist based on customer tasks rather than checking pages only for appearance. Ask someone unfamiliar with the business to complete those tasks on a phone. Their uncertainty often reveals problems that the project team has stopped noticing.

Make the offer understandable

Read the first screen of the home page without relying on the navigation. It should explain what the business does, who it helps and the next useful action. Replace broad claims with concrete service language where the offer is unclear.

Review each important service page separately. Explain what is included, what information is needed to begin and how the customer can ask for a quote. Do not make every visitor return to the home page to understand the basic offer.

Use evidence accurately

Check that project images, testimonials and client names are approved for publication. Explain the business’s role in examples where necessary. Remove placeholder statistics or claims that cannot be substantiated.

If the business is new, show the process, relevant capabilities and clear contact information honestly. A reliable explanation is more useful than invented experience. Keep imagery relevant to the actual offer rather than using attractive pictures that imply work you have not done.

Test the mobile journey

Open the site on a real phone and navigate through the main service paths. Check text size, button spacing, menus and forms. Make sure important information is not hidden behind oversized visuals or awkward interactions.

Try a slower connection where practical. Large images and unnecessary media can delay the point at which the offer becomes usable. Optimise assets and prioritise the information needed for action, while preserving the quality of the visual presentation.

Submit real test enquiries

Use each form with realistic information and confirm the submission reaches the intended destination. Check success messages, notification emails and the records staff will use. Test incomplete or invalid entries to see whether the instructions are understandable.

Click phone, email and WhatsApp links on an appropriate device. Confirm the numbers and destinations. A button that looks correct in a screenshot may still lead to an old contact or a page requiring access the visitor does not have.

Check content and search basics

Give important pages descriptive titles and useful summaries. Use headings that reflect the page structure and describe images appropriately. Google's SEO Starter Guide is a useful reference for making content understandable and discoverable; these steps do not guarantee rankings.

Confirm that intended public pages can be accessed without a login and that test or private pages are handled appropriately. Review redirects if replacing an older website. Keep a record of the previous important URLs so customers do not encounter avoidable dead ends.

Confirm ownership and handover

Record who owns the domain, hosting and connected services. Give the business appropriate access and document renewals. Explain how content updates, backups and support requests will be handled.

Train the person who will maintain the site on real tasks. Updating a service description or replacing an image during handover is more useful than simply sending a password. Onek Designs’ SME website service can be briefed with those operational needs from the outset.

Plan the first review after launch

Monitor enquiries and ask staff whether the information arriving is useful. Record recurring customer questions that the site could answer better. Compare actual behaviour with the intended journey before adding more features.

Measure completed enquiries separately from button clicks. A visitor opening WhatsApp has shown interest, but that action alone does not prove a message was sent or a sale occurred. Use the business’s response records to understand what happened next.

Common launch questions

Can we launch before every future feature is ready?

Yes, if the agreed first phase is complete and dependable. Keep unfinished functions out of the public journey and document the later work clearly.

Is a contact form enough?

It is enough only if it fits the customer journey and staff reliably receive and handle submissions. Consider an alternative contact route for visitors who cannot use the form.

Who should approve the launch?

The business should approve the content and customer workflow, while the technical owner verifies functionality. Keep one final checklist so those approvals refer to the same version.
